In 2015 we'll be starting our first solar energy schemes in Yorkshire
We've assessed more than 70,000 acres of land for potential solar energy generation. We've looked for the best possible sites which will provide energy to power Yorkshire Water clean and waste water treatment facilities.
Elvington Solar Energy Scheme
Elvington Water Treatment Works is one of Yorkshire Water's largest treatment facilities and a key facility for the Yorkshire Water grid system of water pipes.
We're planning to install solar panels across four hectares of land which is located just to the north of the village, next to the water treatment works. We predict that the panels will provide up to 2 megawatts of energy which is 70 to 80 percent of the treatment works' power requirements. That's enough to power more than 300 homes.
Planning permission was granted by the City of York Council in April 2016 and we are hoping to start on this exciting project soon.
