About Kelda Water Services Grampian
Kelda Water Services Grampian (KWS Grampian) operates a 28 year Design, Build, Finance and Operate contract with Scottish Water.
We operate and maintain four waste water treatment plants that serve the North East of Scotland and are focused on driving compliance and performance as well as our responsibility for the waste water operations within the catchments that we serve.
We have two sites in Aberdeen, at Nigg and Persley, and two sites in the north at Peterhead and Fraserburgh. As well as treating waste water; we also operate innovative sludge treatment facilities with the capabilities to receive imported sludge and also drain other liquid waste into our inlet.
Here are just a few of the benefits that we provide:
- Effective treatment of waste water. We operate innovative waste water treatment facilities that meet the highest of quality standards
- Recycling and energy generation - our innovative CAMBI anaerobic digestion process effectively treats sludge, creates a valuable agricultural by-product and creates heat and power for our sites
- High quality coastal bathing waters - our high quality waste water treatment process ensures we protect our coastal waters and meet the guidelines set by Scottish Water.
Combined heat and power (CHP) and energy recycling
Unlike conventional plants that emit heat into the environment as a by-product; our combined heat and power plants (CHP's) generate electricity and capture the heat produced, which is then reused. This makes for a thermodynamically efficient use of fuel and is an example of energy recycling and a sustainable use of resources.
Aberdeen Environment Services (AES)
Kelda Water Services wholly owns AES and the ongoing operations and maintenance of our waste water treatment works is contracted out by AES to Kelda Water Services (Grampian).
