A major project to significantly improve the environment for the picturesque coastal town of Stonehaven, near Aberdeen is now complete.

The £20 million scheme for Scottish Water by Aberdeen Environmental Services is an extension to the 30 year Aberdeen Waste Water PFI contract which AES won in May 2000.

This project, which commenced in January 2007, involved the design, construction and financing of five major pumping stations and ten miles of new pipework to transfer waste water to the existing Nigg Treatment Works, near Aberdeen. This avoided the disruption of constructing a new works in Stonehaven and provided a lower cost solution to Scottish Water and its customers.

State-of-the-art technology was used to design the fully underground pumping stations, with the objective of providing a virtually invisible service. The improvements will provide Stonehaven’s residents and visitors with significant environmental and coastal water benefits.
